Shostakovich 4, Reheard (2014)

Instrumentation: bassoon, violin, cello, piano

Another experimental work based on a class assignment about Shostakovich’s symphonies. I chose the last movement of the 4th symphony, which has quickly grown to be my favorite due to its quirkiness and unconventional structure. I don’t count this as an original composition per se; it’s more of like a highly interpretive arrangement, or a rehearing of the original. This became my preparation before composing “Respiring Reflections”, a composition which is also inspired by an earlier piece (Schubert’s String Quintet) but contains a lot more of my own material and stylistic traits. This piece has never been performed, and this file was generated using Sibelius Sounds Essentials 6.
